A couple of weeks ago I spent some time down in Christchurch shooting for Thermosash, one of New Zealand’s largest curtain wall manufactures & installers.

This time round two of the buildings were the Solid Energy Building at Show Place and the soon to be demolished IRD building in the Red Zone (Christchurch CBD).

Having a little look at abstraction today. I really enjoy shooting this sort of work as it makes you think a lot more purposefully about what you are and are not putting in the frame.

What a gorgeous day it was yesterday! and what better way to spend that day than to jump in the car and head into town for a walk around the waterfront in the sun.

The waterfront’s changed a lot in the 7 years we’ve been living overseas. There are several new fantastically designed commercial buildings along with some new restaurants & bars.

However there are also some little design quirks that really have no other place than in Wellington. The toilet below for instance… Designed by Bret Thurston of Studio Pacific Architecture.

NZi3 and the new Press Building

I thought it was about time I showed some of the new work I’ve been doing since arriving back in the country.

Below is the New Press Building in Christchurch’s CBD. It was really quite strange being within the ‘Red Zone’ well after the event. Especially since I’ve not really experienced any of it. Going in so long after the quake made it very hard to get a sense of the destruction that occurred, mainly due to the fact that so much of the demolition has already occurred. There is still plenty going on and there is still the odd building that hasn’t been touched, but it’s very empty both in what you see and how you feel.

Also in Christchurch is NZi3 – New Zealand ICT Innovation Institute @ the University of Canterbury.

I’ve also updated the Architecture page on the main sight with some of the new work.

Hi all,

It’s been a while since my last post… but for good reason. We’ve moved back to New Zealand! For a whole bunch of reasons my wife and I decided some time back that a move back was a long time coming. Once the decision was made it was just a matter of packing up and moving over… sounds easy right… NOT!! :p

Easy – No. Done – Yes :)

So in light of that I figured that a Re:START post was well suited : )

What a fantastic idea this place is! They say it’s a temporary mall, but personally I think they should keep in running for good. It’s an excellent repurposing of the containers and the stores are niche and funky to suit the place.

Hichaaba Bump

Our good friends Lauren & Peter are a few weeks away from being new parents, so we thought we’d get out and capture a few images of them before the little one enters this world.

Not your traditional ‘Maternity’ photographs, but a very enjoyable little shoot with some lovely images that I hope they both enjoy.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks since we got back from our big trip, so images will be coming slowly over the coming weeks. As a break from that though I happened to be up at 5.30am this morning to see this spectacular sunrise over Melbourne :)

Huế

So we’re all back to reality now and I’ve begun the mammoth task of editing all the images I captured on our travels. I’m going to continue putting them up by city to give you all a snap shot of each place we were lucky enough to see :)

Today we’re in Huế. Unlucky for us it rained from the moment our overnight train from Hanoi arrived until the moment we left. Not letting that dampen our spirits we arranged a tour around all of the local sights (3 Temples and the Citadel). It seems that the rain has really added to the images in a positive way, giving them a feeling of a richer, ancient time.
